What is a gummy smile?

Have you ever looked in the mirror and thought that your teeth looked too small? This common trait is known as a “gummy smile.” With a gummy smile, the problem isn’t actually the size of the teeth, it’s that the gum tissue is covering up too much of them. Fortunately, this condition is corrected relatively easily with a procedure called “crown lengthening”.

Gummy Smile Surgery

Crown lengthening corrects the ratio of gum to tooth by sculpting the soft gum tissue to reveal the portion of the tooth that was previously hidden.  Local anesthesia (Novocaine) ensures that the procedure is pain-free, and post-op pain is usually managed sufficiently by over the counter pain medications.

The Benefits of a Great Smile

Self-confidence and general health are strongly linked. When you smile, the brain releases endorphins that promote happiness and good mental health.
